I'm a bit disgusted with the Canadian media at the moment. They do not give recognition where recognition is due. It's annoying, and sad. Daniel Nestor (with his partner Nenad Zimonjic) won the Men's Doubles at Wimbledon this year. They won last year too. I only got to see some of the match (stupid work) but what I saw was good! I saw more of their semi-final match, where they fought back from being down two sets to love and went on to win the match in five sets. Amazing! Daniel Nestor is Canadian (he grew up in Toronto). He's been the world number one (in doubles), he's currently number two (although, maybe he'll be no.1 again on Monday?? I'll have to check), he's won all the Slams, and yet TSN (Canada's sports channel) doesn't even bother showing the match. The papers barely make mention of him. And while there are some articles today, it took winning Wimbledon for them to mention him. He's Canada's greatest tennis player ffs!!! Give him more credit! Are we so enamoured with love for the Americans that we forget about our own???

Anyways, moving on...today is the Men's final at Wimbledon!!! Federer vs. Roddick. This will be the third time Roddick has faced Federer in the final at Wimbledon. The previous times being in 2004 and 2005, both of which Federer won. Federer is 18-2 against Roddick. So I'm not too worried. Although Roddick has been amazing these past two weeks. So I hope Federer isn't feeling too cocky or confidant, but I doubt he is. He's too much of a gentleman to be cocky. I'm sure he's preparing to just play his best. Which will (knock on wood) win him his 6th Wimbledon final, and 15th Grand Slam, making him the absolute best ever in Men's tennis. Even my mother (who is one of those enamoured for the Americans - she's a wannabee) roots for Roger. And she likes Roddick. But she loves Roger more. The fact that's he's completely fluent in English and speaks with only the slightest accent helps (for her). Yeah, she's prejudiced. But she's my mother and I love her. Anyways, I will of course be rooting for Roger today. I have wine chilling in the fridge, and I'm going to go to Tesco's soon to pick up some snacks. And possibly a donut. Because even though it's not Tims, it's tradition, and I can't break with tradition!!

It's funny, but when Nadal dropped out of Wimbledon I thought there would be a huge gap missing these past two weeks. And while I've missed watching him for sure, I haven't felt like I've missed out. If that makes sense. There's been some amazing tennis these past two weeks. Wimbledon has always been my favourite of the Grand Slams, and it's been just as great as ever.

In other news I've spent the morning downloading music. The website I normally download from is letting people download all of Michael Jackson's music for free as a tribute. Which is amazing on two parts. Because one, awww, that's sweet. And two, free music!! Lots of free music! So I downloaded it all. Then I wanted some more Canadian content on my mp3 player so (the original reason for me going to the download site to begin with) I downloaded some Amanda Marshall and Stabilo (I own the cds, but they're in Canada and I want to listen to them now!) The site actually didn't have anything by Stabilo (though I would have been surprised if they did) and very little by Amanda Marshall, so I found some torrents. Amanda Marshall is funny to listen to these days. Because her music sounds very 90s (mainly because it is) and not like the music you hear today. It sounds very pop. I still enjoy it though. Stabilo has held up better imo. I still love them. I wish both of them would come with new material. I want more!! Aw man, I just found out that Amanda Marshall performed in Brampton on Canada Day! I so would have gone to that, despite it being Brampton, lol!

The past few days have been uber exciting! Well not today or yesterday (I was at work those days, and that's not ever exciting - although I handed in my notice today, so that's kind of exciting! One month left!) But Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were AMAZING!!

Yep, I was at Wimbledon!!! It's literally a dream come true. And it totally lived up to the hype. I had such a fantastic time! Sunday midday I met [livejournal.com profile] scattydove at Victoria and we made our way to Wimbledon Park to camp overnight so we could get Centre Court tickets for Monday (the first day of Wimbledon). We got there, got our queue cards pretty quickly and were delighted to find out we were numbers 337 and 338. They sell 500 Centre Court tickets per day, so we were guaranteed to get them with those numbers! Yay! One hurdle down!! So exciting. It turned a bit sour after that, Catherine got quite ill and spent the evening trying to sleep it off in the tent, so I spent the time reading, trying to nap, listening to music. It was kind of boring, but it was alright. I never did get takeaway delivered to the tent, but they weren't allowed to deliver to the tent anyways (you had to go pick it up from the park entrance) so I didn't miss much. I had a burger instead (and I LOVE burgers). The next morning we woke up after a restless sleep (sleeping on the floor in a small tent with loud drunken people all around is NOT my idea of a good time (although getting to see Federer in the flesh was worth it!!) and packed up. Catherine, unfortunately, got ill again which sucks for her because she wasn't feeling well enough to watch the tennis, and left to go back to my flat and sleep. Luckily this was before we bought our tickets, so at least she didn't lose any money! So I went off myself to Centre Court. And what a day! It was AMAZING. I LOVED it. I had a FANTASTIC seat. 5th row, center. Right behind where Federer sat. Unfortunately I wasn't ever shown on tv (my parents watched the whole day to see if they could find me - they couldn't) but meh, who cares! I could see the players, I could see the tennis ball. I got some great pictures (which eventually I shall post to fb). It was awesome. At times I felt like I had to pinch myself it seemed like a dream. I was sitting in Centre Court. At Wimbledon. Watching Roger Federer (and Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic). Holy cow!! Loved it. Loved it. Loved it! I had spent a lot of time in the gift shops and spent a ton of money on souvenirs. Oops! But so worth it! I got tons of fun stuff, including a Championship towel! The same kind the players get! I'm going to hang it on my wall!

Then Tuesday morning we woke up early (Catherine was feeling much better thank goodness! She still got to see some tennis and it wasn't a complete waste of a trip!) and queued for ground tickets. We got there around half 8 and was inside around half 12. I got to go see the end of Daniel Nestor's first round Doubles match (he's Canadian and the defending Men's Doubles champion). His match was cut short when the other team retired, but I did get to see their dominance for a bit! Man, they're good!! And I met them afterwards and got a picture!! Catherine and I flitted between a number of courts, I saw another Canadian play (she lost) I saw some of Marat Safin's match (thanks to Catherine for letting me into her spot so I could see! It was CROWDED!), I saw Murray on Henman Hill. I drank champagne and got a bit drunk!! Whee! I ate strawberries and cream. It was another fantastic day. I absolutely LOVED getting to go to Wimbledon. And I think I might go again on Saturday if it doesn't rain. I had a great time both days. I was crazy exhausted by the end though. But it was so so so worth it. I wish I could go every year!! Oh! And I got tons of colour and am no longer pasty pale! So woooo for that too!

So I've decided I love both the Royal Mail and Canada Post. They are so so so quick! Snail mail forever! Lol! I sent a package to my Dad for Fathers Day, I sent it Monday and it already got there today. Which is only 4 days later. I swear it takes just as long to send a package within Canada as it does to send one overseas. So maybe it's just Royal Mail that I love?? But it's thanks to Canada Post too, because they have to receive it and then process it and then deliver it. Remember the days (of Yore) when it took two-three weeks to send something (like a Christmas card for example) overseas. Now it takes just a few days. Amazing.

I should also update. Thanks for those that asked about my grandmother. While she's not super dandy, she's not seriously ill and really it was just the way my mother sent the email that made me panic. And not to mention the fact that my mother never bothered emailing me back to let me know everything is okay. So no emergency flights back to Canada. Which means....

(almost) TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL WIMBLEDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I cannot wait!! I went and got a camping mat last night!!
marciadanielle: (Jim/Bones otp logo)
So, I've recently been watching a lot of Star Trek interviews, mainly on You Tube. Ones done during the junkets and premieres, and a few of the talk shows. Mostly of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. I've also wanted to see what else these two have done. So I've downloaded Just My Luck, a Lindsay Lohan movie which also stars Chris Pine. It's not bad. I remember when it came out in theatres, I had thought it looked cute. Well, it was cute. And Chris Pine becomes very hot in it! So the eye candy is quite good! The Lindsay Lohan, not so much. For Zachary Quinto, I've watched some episodes of Heroes. And to my surprise, I really like the show! I think I need to watch more of it, and read up more on it. Because I only have a loose understanding of the premise of the show and I'm sure I'm missing plot points. I really like Sylar (Zachary Quinto's character). Sure he's evil, but in a quiet calm sort of way. I love it! So I need to watch more of it. From the beginning.

Anyways, in my many watching of things that are Zachary Quinto, he's reminded me more and more of my cousin, Alex. His voice, his inflections, his mannerisms. He is SO much like Alex it's crazy.

In the fandom aspect of Star Trek, I've totally become a Kirk/McCoy fangirl. Kirk/Spock seems like it should have been my otp. And I have read stuff with them that I really enjoy, but I'm loving the Kirk/McCoy even more. They are quickly becoming my otp in this fandom. I think because they seem more real, more believable in my 21st century mind. The alien-esque of Spock's Vulcan heritage just doesn't seem to want to mesh well with Kirk, in my head anyways.

In non-fandom news, Roger Federer completed his Grand Slam! He won the French Open!!!!! Woooooooooooooooo! I knew he could do it!

I will hopefully be seeing him in THIRTEEN DAYS! Because in TWELVE DAYS I will be camping out at Wimbledon to get Centre Court tickets for some first round action at Wimbledon! This has been a dream of mine since forever (to go to Wimbledon) and this year the dream is coming true!!! I cannot wait! I am so excited! I am also weirdly excited for the camping bit too. We can have pizza delivered to our tent!! How cool is that?!?!? My sister and brother-in-law have dubbed the camping, extreme tailgating. I think it's an appropriate name!

There is a 48 hour tube strike that started today at 7pm. It SUCKED getting home. I was off at 6pm so I did manage to catch the tube home, but it took forever. And tomorrow and the next day I have to take the bus. Which isn't that big of a deal, but with no tube running AT ALL, the bus is going to be UBER crowded. I start work at 10:20am tomorrow, and I plan to leave before 8:30am for work. Which will give me an extra hour for delays/full buses driving by me. Argh, I hate strikes. So annoying!

Federer Federer Federer!!! Goooooooooo Federer!!

I can't even imagine the pressure he must be feeling right now. And will be feeling tomorrow and the next day, right until he steps onto the court. I hope he is able to tune out that pressure and just plays his very best, irregardless of his chance to make history. And history he will make. I feel confident that this is his year to (finally) win the French Open. Although, I don't want to add any pressure, I'll still love you regardless Roger!!

17 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, after having seen both the Futurama Star Trek spoof and the Family Guy Star Trek spoof....it's hard to say which one I liked better. I liked them both and they both made me squee and giggle. On one hand, I've always liked Family Guy better than Futurama. And Family Guy featured TNG cast which was my first Star Trek love. Not to mention it also had a Rob Lowe cameo, which even more squee!! But on the other hand, it wasn't just Star Trek-centric, it also featured a Meg story-line that dealt with her being "reborn" as a Christian. And while it was funny, I would have liked to see more Star Trek!! The Futurama episode featured TOS cast (minus Scotty (because apparently he said "No way" to doing it) and Bones (because DeForest Kelley had already passed away) - although Bones was in it, he just never said anything) which is my new love and it was sole-y Star Trek, no other plot line interfered. So it's kind of a toss up. Let's just say I enjoyed them both. A lot. That is all.

Only 18 more days until WIMBLEDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems to be sports Sunday on the BBC. Although, I guess technically it's now Monday. But let's ignore that shall we?

I finished the tennis (finally! It seemed long, but probably because I knew who won, I just wanted them to get to end!) I feel bad for Roger. And I feel bad for Rafa. Bad for Rafa because (as [livejournal.com profile] scattydove said) he couldn't celebrate as much as he wanted to because Roger kept crying. Although, I'm sure Roger felt bad too that he was taking away Rafa's thunder. Sometimes you just can't stop crying though! I like emotion though, it makes people more humble!

So I turn off the red button BBC and it's just on regular BBC and the Super Bowl is playing!! I didn't know the BBC was showing it. How fun! Although since it's the BBC (and not to mention I'm in England) there's no commercials which is the best part of the Super Bowl (for me anyways). The BBC has their own people there too. Well, one Brit, and two Americans. But they only come on when NBC goes to commercial (which in football is every two seconds). The rest of the time I get the NBC coverage, so Al Michaels and John Madden. Which makes me homesick!! Hearing John Madden always makes me think of Sunday evenings and Dominos pizza. We used to always order Dominos pizza on Sundays (well, most Sundays - during football season) during the afternoon game on Fox (which doesn't end until 7pm-ish, so we would have our pizza around 6-ish). John Madden for the longest time used to be the commentator for the feature game on Fox on Sundays. So his voice brings back family football memories from my youth! I also know random facts about him. The main one being he doesn't fly. Ever. I think he's afraid of planes. So he takes a bus everywhere. He has his own fancy coach bus (I forget what it's called, but it's semi-famous in the States) and travels week to week on the bus to the different football games. Anyways, I forget my point. But, since it's now 12:30am and I'm tired, I'm going to be turning off the football and going to bed! Without the commercials, the Super Bowl is just football (well, and a halftime show, but meh, I'm sure I can catch it on YouTube later) and ugh. I hate football!!

Good night all!!
marciadanielle: (Roger/Rafa)
I've decided deuce really annoys me. Since it can go on and on and on. Who decided you needed to win by two anyways?? However, I do not feel the same way about the fifth set final. That somehow makes more sense winning by two, then deuce does.

Also, I posed this question to [livejournal.com profile] scattydove on facebook, but I shall pose it here as well. If Roger Federer is in just as good of shape as Rafael Nadal, why does Rafa look 1000 times better shirtless than Roger?? I literally swoon when Nadal takes his shirt off, yet I completely prefer Federer with his shirt on (and yes, I swoon when he puts his shirt back on! Lol!)

Tennis!!

marciadanielle: (Roger/Rafa)
You know, it's only the third set in the men's final of the Australian Open (yes, it's only a replay (stupid work), I already know that Nadal wins). But I'm reading some of the articles about Federer and him crying during the trophy ceremony, and I'm already crying!! How sad am I?? Imagine how I'll be when I actually see it!!

I'm also kind of tipsy after having only one beer. Again, how sad am I??? However, I'd like to state, I'm not drunk. At all. Just lightheaded!! And well, kind of sleepy. Maybe the yummy raspberry beer was a mistake when I have to stay up and watch tennis? ;)

Oh, and a work complaint. I've decided I hate (okay, hate might be too strong, let's say highly dislike) working weekends. I don't like the weekend people. They're nice enough, but they're SO fucking lazy and useless!! They don't have any respect for the place. Or so it seems. I like the full time people a lot better. They disappear when it's busy and leave me all by myself on the tills in the gift shop when there's a huge queue of people! Grrrr. Plus most of them are young (they only work weekends, so they're all in school, usually high school, I haven't talked to all of them, so maybe some are in university, but they seem and act young). And it's super busy all the time and because the weekend people suck and steal money, we have to work the same position all day and we don't get to rotate. So today I was stuck in the busy gift shop all fucking day. Bah! Alright, I'm done complaining now though.
marciadanielle: (Federer)
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scattydove, I am currently sitting very contently in front of the tv watching the Australian Open. Well, it's a replay of Federer's earlier match, so I already know he wins! But it's still fun to watch! Man I love tennis! Watch the Opens always reminds me just how much I love it. I think I really need to make an effort to play more. Perhaps not this summer, but next summer, when I'm home, I should join a club or something. We (we being my family) used to belong to a tennis club, but the last few years we were members, we didn't play much, and the courts were booked every evening with round robins and lessons, there was no free time for us to play! I play in Hilton Head every year, but once or twice a year is not enough! Plus, I always play with my dad and he always beats me!

Oops, Jonathan Ross is about to start and I want to watch! I'll go back to the tennis after! I think it's good Jonathan Ross came back. Sure he screwed up, but I'm glad he was able to accept his suspension and (perhaps) learned from his gaffe. Not like Russell Brand who quit and stamped his feet like a baby. Or so I think anyways. I've never liked Russell Brand anyways. Okay, Tom Cruise is hot! If only he wasn't a psycho...

I've had a really good day today! I was smiling all the way home (not really smiling, because then people would think I'm crazy, but smiling on the inside! You might say there was a bounce to my step!) I love being in a good mood. It feels SO good! And it hasn't ended yet either, so yay! Good mood! Work was good. This morning was some bitching about a manager who came to work in a bad mood (although she was fine by the end of the day) and was bitching at everyone. So we bitched about her! All the while May and I were getting cases of drinks to fill up the drinks cooler by the cash in the gift shop. We sell Vitamin Water (which is overpriced flavour water with added vitamins) and she started pronouncing it vitt-a-mins, as opposed to vite-a-mins, and well you probably had to be there, but we both found in very funny and started giggling! May has a very posh accent, I love it! She's also super nice. In the afternoon we were in wax hands together and at one point it wasn't busy so we decided to have a competition who could make a better wax hand on themselves. After a couple of false starts, it was decided hers was better. My excuse is she's been doing it longer and has had way more practice than me! Then after I was in the gift shop (we rotate positions every day which is good because it breaks up the monotony!) with Emma who I haven't really talked to a lot before. I think she's kind of shy and quiet, and I'm shy, so it takes a while to open up to others. But we started talking more today. Just inane chitchat, but it's better than no chitchat! She wants to a buy a new computer so we were talking about that, and her new flat which she is buying. Which I am so jealous about! Although it's only a part-buy and her parents are helping out a lot. She's only 21, so although it's not her money that's buying her a flat, I'm still jealous that she's going to own her own place! I want to buy my own flat! But in Toronto, not London. So really, I want a condo, not a flat!! ;) Oh, and at the end of my shift, Emma was talking to Lucy (my manager - the one who was a bitch in the morning) about wanting a Yorkie Raisin and Biscuit bar (blech, I hate raisins in chocolate!) and Lucy broke one and gave it to her. And since I was standing right there, she asked if I wanted one, so I took a regular Yorkie bar (plain chocolate). So yay! Free chocolate!!

On my way home, Toronto was featured in London Lite (a free evening paper) as the travel destination! I was flipping through it, waiting for the sports pages (and the tennis news!) and the TTC (a streetcar) is in a picture! The article is lauding Toronto as the new New York and a good place for a glamorous weekend trip. They didn't talk about anything really new to me. A restaurant I never heard of (apparently it's pretty new), one I have heard of (Sassafraz) clothing stores (Over the Rainbow, Holt's), the St. Lawrence Market, the Distillery District, etc.

I came home and was skyping with my mother and we were talking about our nice dinner we're going to when they come (only two and a half weeks now!) And originally we were going to Ebury Wine Bar because we've been before (once back in 1995 - we were going to see Starlight Express at the Apollo Victoria and it was nearby, so we walked in and liked it, and then I also went with my mother in 2000 when we were in London - they serve bread with roasted garlic and it is to die for!! Yum! It's the best part of the meal! The rest of the food was good, not the best I've had, but good all the same) and liked it. But then my mom was talking about going to a fancy place for lunch. She found a list of fancy restaurants doing set lunches for £15-20 and upwards. She wanted to go to Maze Grill (which is part of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants!) and I was looking at the menu, and the dinner a la carte menu isn't too expensive (in comparison to the Ebury Wine Bar - although the wine is significantly more) and I suggested we go there for dinner instead. It's something new and it's Gordon Ramsay!!! How fun! So I made a reservation online and we're going!! Yay! Hopefully it's good. I'm sure it will be though. They have steak with all kind of sauces, so how could it be bad??

Tomorrow I'm going to Borough Market with Jen (who I used to work at Chapters with - she's in London at school, and we're FINALLY getting together!) so that should be fun. Neither of us have been before, but it's a food market, filled with yumminess!!

I hope everyone else is doing well, and is happy!!
marciadanielle: (Federer C'Mon)
I've decided I can be fans of both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and have appropriated icons of both. It all comes down to good tennis and that's what both of these (hot) men bring! I'm currently watching the first Men's semi final at the US Open. It's between Federer and Djokovic (who, although I don't love as a person, is very good looking!!) I've gotten pretty loud at shouting at the tv, which if anyone else was around (which thankfully no one is) might be pretty embarrassing. I used to make fun of my parents who scream at the tv when they watch football (especially my mother when she's watching the Bills!) but now I've realized I do it too when I watch exciting tennis!

In other news, I finally told my grandmother about quitting my job and moving to England. I can't say she's too pleased about it, but at least now I've told her and have done my part.

I met Suzie for dinner last night. We agreed on sushi after discovering that downtown would be crazy because of the film festival. So we went to Sushi on Bloor. It takes me FOREVER (and a day) to get there. Which really really annoys me. I hate traffic!! It should take me about 35-40 minutes to get there (it's pretty midtown, so kind of annoying to get to, but I like the area), however last night there were accidents and traffic causing major delays and it literally took me 75 minutes to get there. Which is INSANE. First there was an accident on my way down to the highway, causing me not to be able to go through an intersection I needed to go through, so I had to turn around and go down to a different road and get on the highway that way....then once I got to the highway there was traffic the entire way. Then I'm winding through city streets and missing every light and there's traffic because it's Friday night and everyone and their dog is heading downtown, however, I finally get there and find parking at my preferred lot. Then I get to eat sushi which always makes me happy. Also, who should be sitting at two tables away from? It's my aunt and cousin and what appears to be a bunch of my cousin's friends. So we chatted for a bit.

Apparently my sister is on her way over...and the kitchen is a mess....oops!
marciadanielle: (Big Ben)
Wow! That was a GREAT Wimbledon final. I feel like I've been watching tennis all day....oh wait, that's because I have! Lol! Between rain delays, commercial breaks, the warm-ups, and not to mention the actual play, the Wimbledon Men's final was on for seven and a half hours. That's a loooooong time. I did go out for about two and a half hours to meet friends for lunch. But the rest of the time, I was watching tennis. And it was great! Originally I wanted Rafael Nadal to win because I thought Roger Federer had had his chance in the spotlight and it was time to give someone else a chance. I do like both of them. This was before the match started. Then the match started and I remembered how much I actually love Federer. He's such an amazing player. And so gracious and seems like a really nice guy. Not that Nadal isn't, but I like Federer more. So I stated rooting for Federer. I feel bad for him now. He seemed so sad, so dejected. John McEnroe said he cut his interview with him short because it looked like he was about to cry! But he was so gracious during the trophy ceremony. He has such good sportsmanship. Nadal does as well. I started tearing up during it, all the emotion from both of them made me cry!! I am happy Nadal won. He deserved it. They both played phenomenally well today, but Nadal managed to pull off the win and congratulations to him!

I realized I need a tennis icon. Or two. Or three. My cellphone wallpaper is now of Roger and Rafa holding the trophies. Yay!

Also, in tennis news, Daniel Nestor won the Men's Doubles final yesterday!! Yay!!! I didn't get the see it (because I was out watching Get Smart - what a great movie! So hilarious! I love Steve Carrell!) but I saw the recap in the news. He now has his career Grand Slam. And he has a gold medal from the Olympics. Maybe he'll even get a second one in a few weeks. I was really happy he won. He's Canada's best tennis player, and he's not finished his career yet!

So, I've decided I definitely want to go to Wimbledon next year. I can't actually start planning it, because I need to fgure out a new job first and then arrange the time off. However, I think I'll go for about 8-9 days. If I can manage more, I will definitely go for more and go somewhere else in Europe as well. But, I'd like to be in London for Canada Day and go to the big celebration in Trafalger Square. And of course see one, maybe two (if I can pull it off) days at Wimbledon. I need to find out if I can, but I think I'll enter the draw for tickets and see what happens.

I'm coming off my tennis high now. It feels like it should be super late at night. But it's only 5:10pm. What should I do with myself now?!
