So I'm here in Berlin. This is my last night here. Tomorrow morning I'll be on my way to Prague. Berlin has been fun. I've enjoyed my time here. I might have enjoyed it slightly more had I been with someone else. (I find evenings hard to fill, I'm not a joining person, and I haven't felt like going on a pub crawl - it's just really not my thing, but other than that it's been good.

Iäm going to cut this because itäs going to be long...

My trip over here was annoying. Not difficult or anything, but really really annoying. My flight (which was supposed to be at 9:40am, leaving London) was cancelled (and I hadn't checked, I never really thought of phoning the airline to see) so I showed up at the airport, found this out, called Lufthansa and they stuck me on the evening flight (no problems there) but that flight wasn't leaving until 6pm. So then I had to decide to stick it out, or go back into London (and spend more money, not only getting there but then finding something to do all day). I decided to stick it out. So I spent about 10 hours in the London City Airport (which is small, there's nothing to do or see) waiting for the flight. It was a LONG day. I couldn#t wander that much because I had my suitcase (couldn't check it in until two hours before my flight was taking off) and I had no one to talk to, or to watch my bag. I sat around, read a book and a half, ate some food, was bored out of my mind...And then the flight was delayed because of fog, so we left about 30 minutes late. However, they came around with chocolate and water while we were waiting, and omg, it was the best chocolate I have ever tasted. And luckily I found the shop here in Berlin so I was able to buy some to take home! I landed in Berlin after 9pm, made it to the hostel just after 10pm, checked in and went to sleep. I hadn't slept well the two nights before, so I conked out, woke a few times, but didn't fully wake up until 11am the next morning. Which was great!

That afternoon I took a walking tour of the city (New Berlin Tours) which had been recommended to me from people on [livejournal.com profile] eurotravelwhich was really fun. The guide (Dave) was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the city. And I got to see everything. Then I wandered around, saw a bit more, and eventually came back to the hostel for bed (the hostel is also pretty good - Circus Hostel, also recommended).

Yesterday I went on another tour, to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Very informative, again the guide was great (Annabelle - and she knew where Mississauga was!!) and the tour was good in it's own way. Sad, and depressing. But good to see. Again more wandering in the evening. I went up the Reichstag (the parliament building) there's a dome on top and you walk up and get a pretty good view.

Today I went on one more tour, the Red Berlin tour, which was about Cold War Germany and the dívision between West and East Berlin. It was also good. I didn't like the guide as much (Nikolai), he had a funny way of talking and made waaaay too many dramtic pauses, but again he was knowledgeable and I had fun and learned quite a bit. This evening I went shopping. I didn't really buy anything, but I walked around different department stores, everything just seemed expensive.

Alright, so that's what I've done the past few days. Tomorrow onto a new city and new memories!!
